CHRONOS
The sculpture represents the god Chronos and is notable for holding in his hands the attributes symbolizing the passage of time and death: the hourglass and the scythe. For this reason, the figure is popularly known as the Peret de la Dalla. The statue was created based on a model designed by the sculptor Roig i Soler. Initially, it adorned the main façade at the entrance to the cemetery, signifying the non-confessional nature of the site. In 1939, following the victory of Franco’s forces, Cronos was removed and replaced with a cross. In 2004, it was restored and relocated to its current position. Two years later, in 2006, a replica of the figure once again presided over the entrance façade.
